Ron Edelman and James Thompson are pleased to announce the addition of Brett Coppage to the Edelman & Thompson law firm.
Brett will join the work comp and personal injury teams at the firm. “Brett brings a unique perspective to our work comp team having represented the company’s side in his last position,” said Ron Edelman, partner of Edelman & Thompson. “Brett understands how adjustors view and analyze claims and, therefore, what strategies to use to bring about the best results for our clients. His experience will be a real asset on our work comp team.” Prior to joining Edelman & Thompson, Brett spent five years as a business litigation attorney for Lathrop & Gage. He gained litigation experience in federal and state courts across the country and briefed appellate cases in the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court. Prior to his time at Lathrop & Gage, Brett worked as a judicial law clerk for Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Jay A. Daugherty, assisting with the disposition of all criminal, civil, and domestic court proceedings. Brett obtained his undergraduate degree from Truman State University in 2004 and went on to graduate cum laude from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2007. He was a member of the UMKC Law Review and the articles editor and a board member of Urban Lawyer. He was the recipient of the 2007 UMKC West Publishing Award for the “Most Outstanding Contribution to Scholarly Writing.” While in law school, Brett served as an intern for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and for the law firm of Van Osdol, Magruder, Erickson & Redmond. Brett is a member of the Missouri and Kansas bars, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Ross T. Roberts Trial Academy, and the American Association for Justice. In his leisure time Brett enjoys cycling. Brett is on the board of an organization that hosts an annual cycling race that raises money for cancer research, a cause especially important to Brett having lost a grandmother and grandfather to the disease. Brett is married and has a daughter.
