Carl Mueller, a former State of Missouri Workers’ Compensation Judge, retired from that position after 20 years of service to join the law firm of Edelman and Thompson in 2011. Mueller was the first Missouri workers’ comp judge in Kansas City in three decades to transition from serving as a judge to practicing law.
Mueller grew up in Moberly, Missouri and attended Truman State University in Kirksville. He earned his law degree and an MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Mueller is licensed to practice in Missouri, Kansas and Texas.
In addition to serving as a judge and practicing law, Mueller’s professional career also includes having served as the assistant for legislative affairs for then Missouri Governor John Ashcroft. Mueller was the first Missouri workers’ compensation judge to complete the National Judicial College’s Administrative Law Adjudication Skills program. In addition, he is certified under Missouri Supreme Court Rule 17 to mediate civil cases. While a judge, Mueller mediated 7,630 cases, approved 11,477 settlements and conducted 575 hearings. And, after Missouri’s work comp law was extensively amended Mueller authored a comprehensive review of the changes that was featured on the cover of Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly.
Mueller and his wife reside in Kansas City. In addition to being an active member of Christ Community Church, Mueller was an adult leader in his sons’ Boy Scout Troop where both earned the rank of Eagle Scout; Mueller also is an Eagle Scout.
