Supporting Workers Along the I-35 Corridor
The I-35 corridor is one of the most important employment routes in the Kansas City region. Every day, thousands of workers commute between job sites, warehouses, manufacturing plants, and healthcare facilities.
This includes employees working at major facilities like the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant, as well as workers employed by manufacturers, suppliers, and logistics companies throughout the Northland.
Whether your injury happened:
- On a factory floor
- In a warehouse
- While driving for work
- Or during your commute
You may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits.
Workplace Injuries in Manufacturing and Industrial Jobs
Manufacturing and industrial work are essential to the Northland economy—but they also come with serious risks.
Workers in and around North Kansas City, Claycomo, and Liberty are often employed in:
- Automotive manufacturing and assembly
- Metal fabrication and machining
- Chemical and materials production
- Food processing and packaging
- Warehousing and distribution
Major regional employers include companies like Tnemec Company, Inc., Henkel Corporation, and Ingredion, along with numerous smaller fabrication and supply businesses.
At the center of this network is the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant, one of the largest automotive manufacturing facilities in the country, employing thousands of workers and supporting an entire ecosystem of suppliers and contractors.
In these environments, injuries can include:
- Crush injuries and machinery accidents
- Repetitive stress injuries
- Falls and lifting injuries
- Exposure to hazardous materials
Injuries That Happen Beyond the Job Site
Not all work-related injuries happen inside a building.
Many workers travel daily along:
- Interstate 35
- Interstate 435
- Missouri Route 152
- Missouri Route 291
If you were injured while:
- Driving between job sites
- Operating a company vehicle
- Making deliveries
- Traveling as part of your job
You may still qualify for workers’ compensation.
Medical Treatment After a Work Injury
After a workplace injury, many Northland workers receive treatment from providers such as:
- North Kansas City Hospital
- Saint Luke’s North Hospital
- Liberty Hospital
- Concentra
Navigating medical care, employer reporting requirements, and insurance paperwork can quickly become overwhelming—especially when your ability to work is affected.
Challenges Workers Face with Workers’ Compensation Claims
Even when injuries clearly happen on the job, workers often face obstacles such as:
- Denied claims
- Delayed benefits
- Pressure to return to work too soon
- Disputes over how the injury occurred
- Difficulty accessing proper medical care
These challenges are common for workers throughout the I-35 corridor, especially in physically demanding industries.

MISSOURI BENEFITS
Under Missouri law, the employer and its insurance carrier are obligated to pay for the employee’s medical treatment for an injury which occurs on the job. However, the employee is required to treat with the physicians selected and authorized by the employer and its insurer. Any bills which the employee incurs on their own will be their responsibility to pay. Sometimes injured workers believe that they can pursue treatment through their health insurance. Unfortunately, virtually every health insurance policy excludes work injuries from their coverage. As a result, an employee who believes that their health insurance company will pay bills related to a work injury will instead have to pay the bills themselves out of their own pocket.
As in Kansas, an injured worker is entitled to receive two-thirds of their normal gross average weekly wage for time off work. The employee is entitled to these benefits whether the doctor for the insurance carrier takes the employee off work completely or places the employee on work restrictions which the employer cannot accommodate. An employee is not entitled to these benefits for the first 3 days lost from work unless the employee is off work for 14 days or more. The maximum rate for these benefits changes each year.
In addition to medical treatment and pay for time off, the employee is also entitled to monetary compensation for permanent disability. This is often in the form of a lump sum payment where the employee is able to return to work and therefore only permanently partially disabled. In a case where the employee is unable to return to any type of gainful employment, the employee may be entitled to permanent total disability benefits. These are weekly payments at the same level as the employee would have been paid for their time off work. Once the employee has been released from the insurance company’s physicians, we will schedule you for a second opinion evaluation with one of our chosen physicians. This provides us with a second opinion not only with regard to the level of disability you have sustained, but also whether or not you will require any further medical treatment which the insurance company’s doctors have failed to address. By obtaining our own second opinion report, we are able to maximize the monetary compensation for your claim and ensure that you are protected with respect to your future medical rights.
