Brett Coppage

“I grew up in a blue-collar family in North Kansas City. My dad was a millwright, one of my grandfathers was a TWA mechanic, and the other a union official for the local carpenters union. I saw in them the pride they took in doing their job well every day. I also learned first-hand what can happen to a working family when the breadwinner is injured. Today, I feel a sense of mission and pride representing individuals who have suffered a significant injury at work or elsewhere.”

Brett Coppage is a part of the Edelman & Thompson work injury and personal injury teams.

Prior to joining Edelman & Thompson, Brett spent five years as a business litigation attorney for Lathrop & Gage. He gained litigation experience in federal and state courts across the country and briefed appellate cases in the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court.

Brett obtained his undergraduate degree from Truman State University in 2004 and went on to graduate cum laude from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2007. He was a member of the UMKC Law Review and the articles editor and a board member of Urban Lawyer. He was the recipient of the 2007 UMKC West Publishing Award for the “Most Outstanding Contribution to Scholarly Writing.”

Brett is a member of the Missouri and Kansas bars, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Ross T. Roberts Trial Academy, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and the American Association for Justice. In 2015-2016, Brett was selected as a “Rising Star” in the area of personal injury litigation by Missouri Super Lawyers, a designation bestowed on less than 2.5% of the Missouri bar.
